Introduction

  • Ellies Guest House is situated on Crescent Avenue, a Victorian terraced street, and offers 6 guest bedrooms with en-suite facilities.
  • The property is over one hundred years old and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests, there are some features of the property which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.
  • Access to the property is by 2 stone steps up from pavement level and all guest bedrooms are accessed by stairs. Therefore these are not suitable for wheelchair users.
  • There is a front paved area with a bench and a selection of planters and flower pots.

General

  • Shops, restaurants, bars and banking facilities are 5 minutes walk away in the harbour.
  • The property has easy access by road.
  • The bus station is 5 minutes walk away with services 7 days per week. Timetables can be provided in advance if required.
  • The nearest railway station is Whitby, approximately 5 minutes walk away.
  • Taxis are readily available and contact details are available. Bookings can be arranged if required.
  • We are unable to accept animals of any kind.

Car Parking

  • On street parking is available on Crescent Avenue and surrounding streets which needs a scratch card (available from us). There is also a pay and display car park to the rear of the guest house.
  • We have an agreement with the primary school to the rear of Ellies Guest House for 1 parking space per room at weekends and school holidays for £2 per night. All contributions go to school funds.

Main Entrance

  • At the front of the property there are 2 steps each approximately 6 inches high which lead up from the pavement. There is no hand rail.
  • The front door is normally open during the day, the inner door is always locked. A doorbell is located on the left hand side of the outer door frame.
  • One front door key and one bedroom key will be provided for each room for the duration of your stay.
  • An external light is provided for your safety and convenience.

Guest Accommodation and Public Areas

  • The front doors open onto the hallway.
  • Off to the left is the Guest Dining Room. Second door on the left is the owners’ accommodation.
  • Directly ahead are the staircases. With a flight of 13 stairs leading to a half landing and a further flight of 5 stairs leading to the first landing.
  • Bedrooms two and three are on this level.
  • There is a flight of 13 stairs leading to a half landing and a further flight of 5 stairs leading to the next landing.
  • Bedrooms four and five are on this level.
  • A further flight of 15 stairs leads to rooms seven and eight.
  • Ellies Guest House is centrally heated throughout and temperatures can be controlled to suit individual requirements.

Dining Room

  • Breakfast is served in the Dining Room. All hot food is cooked fresh.
  • Most of the tables in the Dining Room are set for 2 people but may be able to be moved to accommodate larger groups if required.

Bedrooms and shower rooms

  • There are no ground floor bedrooms.
  • All bedrooms are carpeted throughout and have en suite facilities.
  • A range of hot beverages is provided.
  • Pillows are hypo-allergenic.
  • Each room has hanging space or wardrobe, set of drawers and bedside cabinets with lamps.
  • Each room has remote controlled television and a radio alarm clock.
  • Lighting is provided by a mixture of ceiling and bedside lighting.
  • In addition most rooms have extra seating.
  • There is a Guest Information Pack in each room providing details about the accommodation, our facilities and the local area.
  • All shower rooms are painted and have non slip floors. All sanitary ware is white.
  • All have electric showers, w.c., basin with twist and turn taps. The shower trays are 8 inches high.
  • Lighting is provided by ceiling and illuminated mirror or over mirror lighting.

Bedroom two

  • This bedroom has a super king size bed with access is available from both sides of the bed.
  • The super king size bed can also be used as twin beds. This is a flexible room that can be used as a king size double or twin room.
  • This room is situated at the back of the property with a double glazed window, overlooking the primary school.
  • There are 3 steps down to the en suite.

Bedroom Three

  • This bedroom has a super king size bed with access is available from both sides of the bed.
  • The super king size bed can also be used as twin beds. This is a flexible room that can be used as a king size double or twin room.
  • This room is situated at the front of the property overlooking Crescent Avenue with distant sea views

Bedroom four

  • This bedroom is at the rear of the property overlooking the primary school. It has a double bed with access to both sides of the bed.

Bedroom five

  • This bedroom is to the front of the property, overlooking Crescent Avenue. It has a double bed, with access to both sides.

Bedroom seven

  • This bedroom is to the front of the property, overlooking Crescent Avenue. It has a double bed, with access to both sides.

Bedroom eight

  • This bedroom is to the rear of the property, overlooking the school, with distant views of the moors and the sea. It has a double bed, with access to both sides. Please be aware that this is an attic bedroom with a low beamed ceiling in one place.

Additional Information

  • There are fire extinguishers on all landings.
  • Mains controlled smoke detectors are situated in the dining room, all corridors, stairways and bedrooms.
  • Emergency lighting is situated in the dining room and all corridors and stairways.
  • In the event of a fire, the smoke detectors would sound.
  • The building can be evacuated by following the marked routes to the front door. Emergency exit signs are located on the stairways and above the main exit.
  • Please advise us if there is any reason that you may need additional assistance with these procedures.
  • Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted anywhere in Ellies Guest House, including the front entrance of the property.
  • We are able to cater for special dietary needs but would ask that you provide us with prior notice of at least 1 day.
  • Mobile phone reception is generally good in Ellies Guest House and the immediate surrounding area.
  • Wifi internet access is generally available throughout Ellies Guest House.
